Mason Robinson came to Rutgers as a highly-touted four-star prospect out of Somerville High School as part of the incoming freshman class of 2007. He overcame two major knee surgeries to finish as a sixth-year senior captain.

During Robinson’s time at Rutgers, he played as a running back, punt returner, wide receiver and cornerback. He also played played briefly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after college.

Now, he is back in New Jersey where he’s ventured into a new line of work.

“I am running a training company called Shock The World,” Robinson said. “We do athletic training and fitness training. We work out athletes all over New Jersey, especially Central Jersey. I travel all over. I go to them and they come to me. I also trained some guys getting ready for the NFL at TEST Sports Club. It gives me the opportunity to still be active and still keep training myself.”

Robinson is also a coach for the ASG (Air Sports Group ) 7-on-7 team which features some top New Jersey recruits, including wide receiver Eddie Lewis of Mater Dei and quarterback Artur Sitkowski of Old Bridge.

“I just like to help these kids learn the game of football and make it to the next level,” Robinson said. “I also wanted to work with people, so it was a perfect situation. I also like to give back and help younger people achieve their goals.”

Robinson also did some assistant coaching at Somerville High School in his post-Rutgers days.

His final season as a Scarlet Knight came in 2012 and he mentioned what life was like after football.

“It is a little difficult because I was always in the athletic mode. But I kept the same mentality. I like being in competitive environments. The big thing after college is you have to start doing things on your own. You can’t just come into The Hale Center and have them check your bags for you and stuff like that. You have to do everything yourself. And there is nobody on top of you to stay in shape. You have to get in the weight room yourself and do everything on your own.”

Robinson has still not given up on playing some kind of professional football in the future.

“I am still working on myself. I am still training and ready to play football,” he said. “I am not ready to give that up yet. There are also other business ventures I would like to step into outside of training, like getting into real estate. I want to continue to grow outside of actual sports.”

Recently, Robinson had a tryout with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League and claimed a 40-time of 4.27.

But wherever the future takes him, Robinson not only has a solid athletic background, he has college degrees for all occasions.

“I double majored as an undergrad in Economics and communications with a minor in Labor Studies. I got my Master’s as well in Labor Studies and Employment Relations. I was also thinking about going back and getting a doctorate. It would be nice to be called Dr. Mason.”
