Here is Tom's bio from the ScarletKnights.com site:
New Jersey native Tom McCarthy is in his third year as play-by-play announcer for the Rutgers Football Radio Network. McCarthy’s voice is a familiar one to New Jersey sports fans. The 35-year-old announcer is host of "Philly Sports Live" weekday afternoons on ESPN Radio 920 AM, and is also the pre-and-post game host for Philadelphia Phillies’ radio broadcasts.
A former sportswriter for the Trenton Times, McCarthy began his career in broadcasting in 1991 when he handled play-by-play for the College of New Jersey football team on WTTM 920 AM in Trenton. During that time, he also hosted a weekly sports talk show called Tom McCarthy's "High School Sports Page."
In 1993, McCarthy was named Director of Public and Media Relations, as well as radio broadcaster, for the Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Following the 1995 baseball season, McCarthy was hired as the play-by-play voice of Princeton University's football and men's basketball teams. In September of 1996, McCarthy was promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Thunder. He remained with the Thunder until the end of the 1999 season when he left to begin his own sports talk show on ESPN Radio 1680.
During his time with the Thunder, McCarthy won numerous publication awards for his work on the team's yearbook and media guide, and in September of 2000, McCarthy was awarded a Mid-Atlantic Emmy for his play-by-play work with the Thunder on television. In addition to his pre-and-post game duties for the Phillies radio network, McCarthy handles the team's call-in show during rain delays and periodically does play-by-play on the Phillies Radio Network. McCarthy has also been a frequent national radio host on ESPN radio.
McCarthy is a 1986 graduate of Brick Memorial High School, and a 1990 graduate of the College of New Jersey. Tom and his wife Meg have four children: Patrick (8), Tommy (6), Maggie (3) and Kerri (8 months), and live in Allentown, NJ.
