Rutgers announced yesterday that it has scheduled a 2019 home contest against Liberty, who will be a member of the FBS by that time. The game will take place on Oct. 26, 2019.

Meanwhile, on the recruiting front, Rutgers is in the midst of a race to get a quarterback commit in the class of 2018. California native Jalen Chatman is concluding a two-day visit today and is a strong candidate to be Rutgers’ next commit.

Rutgers will also host South Carolina quarterback Tyshun Sarratt next weekend and California product Sean Chambers on June 10th.

Some recruits on the east coast are also holding Rutgers in high regard as New York wide receiver Paul Woods of Canisius High in Buffalo will announce his decision on July 11th.

“Right now my favorites are Rutgers, Wake Forest, and Temple,” Woods told Scaret Nation last night.

Rutgers is also faring well in its pursuit of St. Peter’s Prep safety Zamir Mickens.

“[Head] Coach [Chris] Ash and the staff is showing all the love they can,” Mickens said. “So I am really liking the school. They are improving, they are coming up and the players are very aggressive. When I went to one of their practices, it was very high-tempo and very competitive.”

Another scholarship opened up last week when defensive end Ron’Dell Carter told Scarlet Nation that he will be transferring to James Madison to play football with his brother.

"I want to thank all my brothers in that Rutgers locker room that has supported me throughout this whole thing,” Carter said. “I love those guys to death and I wish every single last one of them nothing but success and triumphs. I'm just ready to get on the field and play with my brother and do everything I was destined to do.”

The Scarlet Knights pulled in a commitment yesterday from Long Beach Poly power forward Myles Johnson. That came on the heels of a midweek official visit to Rutgers for the California native.

“I really liked the coaches and the campus was nice. I visited the Livingston and Busch campus talked to the dean of engineering,” Johnson said. “I met some players and all the coaching staff walked through all the facilities and ate some good food.”

Johnson is part of the 2017 class and will be eligible to play this coming season.
