A year ago, the Rutgers football team went 3-6 and saw its offense improve under a new coaching staff including offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson.

The Scarlet Knights scored 26.9 points per game after scoring 19.9 points the year before. In three less games, Rutgers tallied 3,052 yards compared to 3,277 in 2019 and averaged 339.1 yards on average. It reached just 273.1 yards two seasons ago.

A big reason why of increased production was the passing game. Rutgers quarterbacks threw for more yards in 2020 (1,789) than it did in more games the season prior (1,672). The trio of wide receivers, Bo Melton, Aron Cruickshank, and Shameen Jones, all thrived in the new offense. Melton finally broke out with six touchdowns through the air on 47 catches for 638 yards. Cruickshank caught 37 balls for 239 yards and another score, and Jones made 34 grabs for 378 yards and three touchdowns.
