Q&A with 1stLoveBasketball's Bilal Benjamin talking 2022 G Derek Simpson

Earlier this month Rutgers Basketball received their second verbal commitment in the class of 2022 when South Jersey guard Derek Simpson made his decision public via social media.

TKR spoke with www.1stlovebasketball.net‘s Bilal Benjamin to learn more about Simpson and what exactly the Scarlet Knights are getting in the three-star guard.

THE KNIGHT REPORT: You’ve posted a lot about Derek Simpson on social media over the past few months, so how well do you know him and can you describe what kind of player he is?

BILAL BENJAMIN : “I know Derek pretty well, I met him right before his freshman year at a gym where we were just playing pickup. I just sat back, watched and said to myself, “man this kid is special”. Usually when I play pickup I see kids all the time, but Simpson was athletic, making quick decisions and this was just pickup, but he was very quick.”
