OFFENSE.....

Offensively this season, the Spartans are averaging 37.8 points per game and 466 yards of total offense per game. For the first time in a while, they have a strong backfield with quarterback Payton Thorne and running back Kenneth Walker III whose leading the country in rushing through five weeks. Thorne broke onto the scene late last season for the Spartans and provided a nice spark offensively, so far this season, he has built upon those successes from last year and has looked strong in the process. Through five games, he is completing 63.1% of his passes for 1,236-yards and 11 touchdowns. He's been solid at not turning the ball over as well, with just one interception on the season, his lone turnover. Thorne isn't necessarily a threat to take off and run the ball consistently, but opposing defenses do need to keep tabs on him as he's totaled 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season. Backup quarterback Anthony Russo is a name that may be familiar with Rutgers fans as well, Russo used to play at Temple, one time Rutgers commit and a product of Archbishop Wood outside Philadelphia.
