Zamir Mickens talks Rutgers commitment
Rutgers kept the commitments rolling as it started off its Saturday by getting a commitment from class of 2018 defensive back Zamir Mickens. Scarlet Nation spoke to Mickens on campus just after he committed and he broke down why he chose Rutgers.
“Whenever I came to Rutgers, I really had a good time. Coach [Chris] Ash and Coach [Bill] Busch showed me a lot of love and they would call me during the week and hitting me up on twitter, just showing me a lot of love. I am very comfortable at Rutgers and I like how there is a Prep pipeline.”
Mickens will join Rutgers incoming freshman quarterback Johnathan Lewis who was a teammate of his at Prep and Mickens already spoke with him about his commitment.
“He told me that I am going to have a great time here and it would be great if I committed and I will have a good chance of starting at my position,” Mickens said of Lewis.
The Rutgers coaching staff has not made it a secret that it wanted Mickens on the banks for some time.
“I get mail from Rutgers every day saying I am not going anywhere else and that I am coming here,” Mickens said.
Mickens made his commitment inside the Hale Center as he gave Ash the news directly.
“He had a big smile on his face and gave me a hug. He was happy,” Mickens said of Ash. “I haven’t got a chance to tell Coach Busch yet.”
