Rutgers landed its first out-of-state commit today when Tottenville (N.Y.) junior Tim Barrow announced his intentions to join the Scarlet Knights. He is capable of playing on both sides of the football and was recruited by Rutgers as an athlete.

"I chose to commit to Rutgers University," Barrow told Scarlet Nation. "I picked Rutgers because they made me and my family feel like I was at home every time we visited. Also I have a real strong relationship with Coach [Bill] Busch and most of the guys on staff. No coaches really stood out to me in particular, because they are all great coaches with great personalities."

Barrow had been favoring Rutgers for a while and talked about what made him offer up his verbal pledge today.

"The final factor in my decision was talking to my coach about it. My coach never told me what school to commit to but he always told me to pick the school I feel the most comfortable at and that's Rutgers.

The feeling of home was also very important to Barrow.

“I wanted a school I could call home," he said. "I wanted to go to a place I could go back to even after I graduate and it would feel like home. I was looking for a second home and a chance to have a great relationship with the coaches and players.”

Barrow said he was able to find that at Rutgers.

“Me and Coach Ash have a great relationship. We just talk a lot about my academics because that is a bug part of the recruiting process. It is really never about football. It’s really about academics because he wants to make sure I am staying on track and doing good for myself.”

Ash is not the only RU coach who influenced Barrow’s decision.

“I get along with the whole staff very easily. They are basically like having a friend. They are really cool with me and I like that for my future.”

The staff will also have the option of using Barrow as a wide receiver or defensive back.

“They said I am going to be a guy that goes out and makes plays," Barrow said.
