WR Shameen Jones coming out from under recruiting radar

Cardinal Hayes (Bronx, N.Y.) class of 2017 wide receiver Shameen Jones added to his list as he pulled in a Rutgers offer last week. It is his first Big Ten offer as Jones is just starting to come out from under the recruiting radar.

Jones camped at the Tri-State Showcase last week hosted by Rutgers at Farleigh Dickinson University.

Not a day later, he received word that he was the owner of a Rutgers offer.

“I was expecting it when I went to the camp, but they seemed kind of iffy at first. They said at the camp they may offer,” said the 6-foot-3, 175-pound Jones. “But the next day, they called and said they want to offer me and want me there.”

Jones has yet to see the Rutgers campus, but plans on visiting this weekend.

“I am planning on getting up there for a visit on Saturday,” Jones said.

He will also participate in the Rutgers 7-on-7 Passing Camp later this month. Meanwhile, Jones has been hearing from another Big Ten school.

“I started recently talking to Wisconsin. They told me they are really interested in me,” Jones said.

Jones also holds a Temple offer and continues to hear from Owls coaching staff in addition to a host of other schools that have already offered.

“Bowling Green contacts me a lot, more often than any other coach. They really stay on me with recruiting,” Jones said. “I plan on visiting there in the summer.”

There are also some possible camp stops awaiting Jones over the next month.

“I plan on visiting one or two camps. I might be attending the Penn State camp, but other than that I am not sure,” he said.

Jones’ offer list has climbed into double digits, although some bigger schools are just learning about him as he possess a wide array of skills as a New York City prospect who has been a bit under-recruited thus far.

“His recruiting is heating up,” said Cardinal Hayes assistant coach George Lanese. “He is a big receiver with a lot room to put on weight, great hands, explosive, relentless blocker and will score close to 1100 on the SAT.”
