WR Eddie Lewis reaffirms commitment to Rutgers

Last year, Rutgers received a commitment from wide receiver Eddie Lewis out of Mater Dei Prep located in New Monmouth, NJ. Lewis wasn't able to qualify, so he ended up at Milford Prep Academy (NY).

Scarlet Nation has confirmed that Lewis reaffirmed his commitment to the Scarlet Knights and will be part of the incoming class of 2018.

"Eddie has been a great player for us," Milford head coach Bill Chaplick told Scarlet Nation. "He’s got some great football speed. He’s been behind the coverage all year long, record. He’s kind of grew up since he’s been here, and I have no problem recommending the kid."

Chaplick offered an update to where Lewis is now compared to when he first enrolled at Milford.

"Probably the only thing that he has to work on is what you have to work on when you get to a 1A program. You get into a program where you work on your body, strength, your speed and quickness. He was high school kid coming in here, and he wasn’t in the shape he is in now. All it takes is a full year of that, and then he will be on his way. He will be a tough guy to cover in college; I wouldn’t want to cover him.”

Lewis committed to Rutgers back on the day before signing day 2017, and he will stick with the Scarlet Knights in 2018 as well.

"Rutgers is where he is going to go. He’s happy about that, " said Chaplick.

Rutgers running backs coach Lester Erb has been checking in on Lewis as well.

"Rutgers sent over the guy from Iowa, the RB coach. I’ve known him for a long time,” Chaplick said of Erb. “I’ve dealt with him back when he was at Iowa. He coached Shon Greene, who was our running back too. It’s been many years in between. He’s a class guy, and when he walks in you can feel the big time.”

Chaplick has known some of the other coaches at Rutgers for a long time and hopes the relationship between the two schools continues.

"I know some of the coaches over at Rutgers since I’ve been here for so long. I wish all of them the best and everything. We have a good relationship with them, and I can’t see it drying up. I think it’s going to continue to be steady.”
