Since this year's edition of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights women's basketball team is starting to draw favorable comparisons to the 2000 Final Four team, here is an update on what some members of that team have been up to.
Mauri Horton - Mauri, a freshman during the Final Four season, is the lone senior on the current roster and has started all 13 games for the Knights this year. She leads the team in rebounding and is second in scoring (first in 3-point shooting).
Tammy Sutton-Brown - Tammy was drafted early in the second round by the WNBA's Charlotte Sting in 2001. By mid-season of her rookie year, she had become the Sting's starting center, and helped lead her team to the WNBA Finals against the Los Angeles Sparks. In just her second season, she was named to the 2002 WNBA all-star team as a reserve. Tammy has spent part of each off-season playing overseas, first in Korea and now in Russia. Tammy also spent time in November working out and practicing with the team.
Linda Miles - Linda attended training camp with the WNBA's Seattle Storm in 2001, but did not make the roster. She has found a new career in professional wrestling, appearing last year on the WWE's reality show on MTV, "Tough Enough 2". More than 5000 hopefuls submitted audition tapes for the show. As one of two winners, Linda is now training with the WWE in Louisville, and will probably be making appearances on WWE's "Raw" during the next few months. She has also appeared in the magazine "WWE Divas Undressed". Linda visited the RAC in December and looked terrific. She said that she is really enjoying her new career.
Usha Gilmore - Usha was drafted by the WNBA's Indiana Fever in 2000, but was injured for much of the season and saw little playing time. She is now in her second year as an assistant coach at Wagner College, and made an appearance at the RAC in November when her Wagner Seahawks faced the Scarlet Knights in the first round of the Coca-Cola Classic. Fans in North Jersey can see Usha when Wagner visits conference rival Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck on February 10.
Davalyn Cunningham - Davalyn was drafted by the WNBA's Orlando Miracle in 2002. Unfortunately, she suffered a broken finger during training camp and saw little action during the season. The WNBA has announced that the Miracle team will either be moving or disbanded in 2003, so we don't know where Davalyn will spend the next season. In the meantime, she is playing professionally in Portugal's Liga Feminina.
Tasha Pointer - Tasha was drafted by the WNBA's Portland Fire in 2001, but did not make the roster. She is in her second year as a graduate student at Rutgers, and is often spotted at the RAC for home games. Tasha has also practiced with the team and serves as a mentor to fellow Chicago native Cappie Pondexter.
Dana Boonen - Dana has been playing professionally in both Spain (2001-2002) and France (2002-2003), and is doing quite well. She is also a member of the Belgium national team, along with Rutgers hall of famer Carolyn DeRoose.
Jen Clemente - Jen has been playing professionally in Portugal, and is often seen at the RAC when she returns to New Jersey.
Shawnetta Stewart - Shawnetta was drafted by the WNBA's Orlando Miracle in 2000, but did not make the team. She is now back home in Philadelphia.
