Wayne Hills WR Tyler Hayek discusses Rutgers commitment

Rutgers added another commitment today from Wayne Hills class of 2017 wide receiver Tyler Hayek. He camped at Rutgers last week and then earned an offer a few days later.

Hayek was then back on campus later this week for another visit.

“I went there to see the whole campus and look at the academic side,” Hayek told Scarlet Nation after announcing his commitment today. “I really liked the environment."

The commitment actually came Friday night, although Hayek did not release the news until today.

He mentioned what led him to that decision.

“I was really asking myself why not? It’s Big Ten football, it’s Rutgers and it’s New Jersey.”

The commitment may have seemed to come up suddenly, but Rutgers has been keeping tabs on Hayek for a while.

“It all started in January and since Junior Day [in February], I have been talking to Coach [Bill] Busch throughout my track season,” Hayek said. “He’s been asking my track times and talked to me like every single day.”

Busch is Hayek’s area recruiter, although wide receivers coach Jafar Williams also helped bring Hayek to Rutgers.

“I am really comfortable with both of them,” Hayek said. “They have been talking to me like every day. I really like Jafar as a coach. I am really comfortable with the way he is coaching me and showing me new stuff.”

Head coach Chris Ash also made an impression on Hayek, which led to his commitment.

“He really knows what he is talking about,” Hayek said of Ash. “That’s why I feel like Rutgers is a great choice. He knows what he is doing and I know he is going to make this program great again.”

Hayek fits the mold of a big receiver that Rutgers will need after this season and the 6-foot-4 future Scarlet Knight talked about where the staff sees him fitting in.

“The like me at outside receiver because of my speed and height. I can go up and make the big catch.”
