More on Travon King's commitment to Rutgers

Rutgers landed commitment No.20 in the class of 2018 today as Travon King of Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden (N.J.) announced his plans to remain in his home state for college.

Wilson head coach Preston Brown spoke about King and mentioned what kind of player Rutgers is getting.

“Travon King is the type of player that literally controls an entire game on both sides of the ball. His relentless effort to get to the ball on defense, ability to run great routes and destroy defenders in the run game makes him one of the nation’s best athletes.”

According to Brown, King’s potential is sky high.

“He has future first-round potential, he is 6-foot-4 with a 7-foot wing span and all muscle. He can run like a gazelle and be fierce like a lion. He has deceptive speed but really quick-twitch hips and feet to change direction very efficiently.”

However, there are also areas that King needs to improve upon.

“His weakness is he needs to put on some more weight which will happen when he gets to an elite program,” Brown said. “Being a jack of many trades can hurt sometimes, but he will define a role someplace and dominate whatever it is.”

There were some lofty comparisons made as well.

“The NFL players he closely resembles would be Tyson Jackson former LSU hybrid d-end, Khalil Mack, DeMarcus Ware, Von Miller,” Brown said. “He could equally be Antonio Gates, or Martelleus Bennett at tight end. He has that range and versatility.”
