Tottenvile LB Chris Campbell garnering interest from Rutgers

In the past couple years, Rutgers has started a pipeline from a program that is less than 30 miles away. Tottenville High School in Staten Island has produced a host of future Scarlet Knights in athlete Tim Barrow (2017), athlete Zihir Lacewell (2018), and grad transfer running back Gus Edwards.

Another Tottenville target has emerged in class of 2018 in linebacker Chris Campbell, who recently at Rutgers.

"My recruitment is going good. I just got on offer from Stony Brook and I have a lot of interest from a lot of schools,” Campbell told Scarlet Nation. "I have high interest from Rutgers, Wagner, Temple, UConn, and New Hampshire right now. I was also recently at the Rutgers camp where I impressed a lot of coaches from like Maine, New Hampshire, and Rutgers.”

Rutgers secondary coach Bill Busch was keeping a close eye on Campbell during one of the recent RU camps and has maintained a good deal of contact since that time.

“I know Rutgers likes my film a lot and when I went to their camp the other day, I really liked the linebacker drills because it got me noticed because I think I move better than most linebackers,” Campbell said. “Also, I did well in the 1-on-1’s and I feel that I am a good coverage linebacker.

“Coach Busch said I did great and that I move well for a linebacker. He and I talk all the time, about two times a week.”

Campbell’s time on campus has also bolstered his overall opinion of Rutgers.

“A Rutgers offer would mean a lot to me. Rutgers is a great school and they have the New York to RU pipeline. One of my teammates and longtime friend just committed there the other day in Zihir Lacewell. Zihir and myself have been playing on the same team since we were 10 years old. He basically just told me that the whole staff over there treats him like he is family.”

As far as visits go, Campbell is planning on heading back over to Rutgers this weekend for the 7-on-7 Passing Camp. He was also told that the RU coaching staff is going to be keeping a close eye on him.
