Rutgers added another commit today when IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) senior wide receiver Jalen Jordan announced his plans to join the Scarlet Knights’ class of 2018. Jordan committed to Rutgers on Monday night, but waited until tonight to officially release the news.

He spoke with Scarlet Nation about why he chose Rutgers.

“Rutgers is appealing because they are looking to play me as a hybrid [wide receiver/tight end]. They may use me all over the field which is also appealing to scouts. I also enjoyed the love I received from the coaches, staff, my fellow recruits and the fans. Rutgers Nation are some diehard fans. They show the recruits love on twitter and in person. It is just a great environment.”

The Rutgers recruiting pitch was also pretty straightforward and that maintained itself last weekend during Jordan’s official visit.

“They basically just let me know their vision for the team, and their expectations of Rutgers football,” Jordan said. “They explained to me the benefits of joining Rutgers on the field, attaining a degree and networking opportunities.”

Jordan has also developed a bond with one of the RU assistants.

“Coach Okruch is my main recruiter. He’s seems very genuine and has shown his commitment to me. He’s been a man of his word. I know I a learn a lot from him.”

And what are Jordan’s plans for this coming season at Rutgers?

“My most important freshman year goal is to learn from the coaches, and upperclassmen. Compete at a high level and play a role in the success of my team.”

Jordan was scheduled to visit Georgia Tech this coming weekend, but cancelled that visit yesterday when he committed to Rutgers. He will also be an early enrollee this January.
