Stevie Scott discusses Rutgers commitment

Rutgers kept the commitments coming today when class of 2018 running back Stevie Scott of Syracuse (N.Y.) of Christian Brothers High School announced his plans to become a Scarlet Knight.

Scott spoke with Rutgers about his decision.

“I just felt like committing to Rutgers was the best move for me. I felt like it had the right feel and it was the right environment for me to be around.”

His commitment came as a bit of a surprise to the RU staff as well.

“I originally told Coach Ash about my commitment and I caught him off guard a little bit,” Scott said. “He was just really surprised and excited and then just gave the phone to the other coaches so I could let them know.”

It was actually a defensive coach who took charge in Scott’s recruitment.

“Coach [Jay] Niemann was my recruiter from Rutgers,” Scott said. “I feel like he’s a straightforward coach and he knows what he is doing. He is very honest about everything and I feel like he will be a good future coach for me.”

Scott visited Rutgers last in June and it appeared he was close to a commitment while on that trip.

“I visited back in June. I liked the coaching staff, the players, and the environment,” Scott said. “The area is just really nice and a good place I could play football at.”

Scott joins three other New York state commits in Rutgers class of 2018.

“I have a group chat with a lot of New York guys and we talk just daily. They knew what the plan was from day one, and they just wanted me to take my time and were happy for me when I told them I committed to Rutgers,” Scott said. “I definitely want to recruit some others to Rutgers, that’s the move. No specific names right now, but I’m definitely going to start working once the season starts.”

Scott also hopes to be enrolled at Rutgers in January for the spring semester.

"That would be the plan,” her said.

And what can the scarlet nation expect to see from Scott when he arrives at Rutgers?

“I feel like I could be a change player and I feel like I could make a difference in the whole dynasty. The legacy that Ray Rice left off, I feel like I could pick up where he left off and maybe even do a little bit better.”
