Rutgers Football lost one of their mainstays in the secondary today as safety Christian Izien took to Twitter to announce that he has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Izien arrived on the banks as a member of the 2018 recruiting class after playing several years for one of New York's best high school football programs in Erasmus Hall.

The 5-foot-10 defensive back appeared in 49 games (40 starts) over five seasons with the Scarlet Knights where he recorded 295 total tackles (189 solo), 15.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sack, four interceptions, 15 passes defended and three fumble recoveries.

This past season was arguably Izien's best season yet for Rutgers as he was asked to play a bit closer to the line of scrimmage in a hybrid safety / linebacker type role where he finished tied for second on the team in total tackles (83) and third in passes defended (4).
