Rutgers welcomed its quarterback of the future this weekend as recent commit Tylin Oden of Spring Hill Tenn., spent the weekend in Piscataway. It was his first visit to Rutgers as he committed without having been on campus.
“It was a great sight to see. I met a lot of great people,” Oden told Scarlet Nation. “I heard a lot of great things from the coaches and the players who are on the team. It was just a great experience. I just can’t wait to get on campus and enroll at Rutgers."
Oden’s player host for the weekend was freshman wide receiver Dontae Owens.
“He took me to meet a few people. We chilled,” Oden said. “He is a really cool, laid back guy, a lot like myself. I had a really good time with him.”
Owens also talked to Oden about the current RU coaching staff.
“He told me they all trust [head] coach [Chris] Ash and the coaching staff,” Oden said of Owens. “They are all buying in. They all want to do what it takes.”
Two offensive linemen committed today and Oden was able to spend some time with newest Scarlet Knights Sam Howson and Mike Lonsdorf,
“They are good people. They are huge too,” Oden said. “I believe they liked what they saw at Rutgers.”
Oden also spent some time with wide receivers Isaiah Wright and Taysir Mack, who are also committed to Rutgers.
“This weekend, we kicked it. They are really cool guys, level headed and laid back. They are guys you can chill with and get something done on the field with them too," Oden said. "I didn’t really try and convince anyone to commit. I was just being myself and giving off my energy. I love it at Rutgers and I am not from this area. I am from the south and I want to be here for the next four years. But I think just my energy that I gave off, it extended to them.”
While on campus, Oden also sat down with offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer and talked a little bit about the new RU offense.
“It’s exciting. They do a lot of stuff that I am looking forward to doing and I always wanted to do in high school,” Oden said. “I am just excited and ready to go.”
Oden also had the opportunity to interact with future teammates, coaches and students, all of which made a very good impression.
“Seeing the facilities and what they have to offer, it was just a great sight. Another thing was how incredibly nice the players were. Being down here in the south, people say that people up north are rude, but it was a completely different picture.”
