Rutgers Hoops defeats Sacred Heart Pioneers in season opener

Playing its first game in over 260 days, the Rutgers men's basketball team finally hit the hardwood today as they opened up the 2020-21 season with a 86-63 win over Sacred Heart.

The Scarlet Knights never trailed once during the game and were led by junior forward Ron Harper Jr, who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Along with Harper Jr., Rutgers also got significant contributions from junior Montez Mathis (17pts, 2rebs, 3asts) and freshman Cliff Omoruyi (14pts, 11rebs).

Senior guard Geo Baker got injured in the first half when he came down on a SHU player's foot on a 3-pointer from the left corner. Baker was taped up and didn't come back in the game.

UP NEXT: Rutgers Basketball is set to welcome the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights to the RAC for a Friday night matchup. Tip-off is set to take place at 7pm and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
