QB Johnny Langan lands Rutgers offer

Rutgers sent out an in-state junior day offer to Bergen Catholic quarterback Johnny Langan, who was on campus today. This is the second junior day the staff has held this year and Langan was the first member of today's contingent of visitors to land an offer.

“It was great because I've been wanting that Rutgers offer for a while now,” Langan said. “It was definitely an offer to play quarterback.”

While on campus, Langan had the chance to show off his quarterback knowledge to offensive coordinator Jerry Kill.

“I went over to Rutgers this morning to get some work on the board with Coach Kill,” Langan said. "He drew up a play on a white board and tested me knowledge on some passing concepts. He told me he was really impressed with football IQ and then he offered me.”

The offer is Langan’s fifth, with others coming from Boston College, Syracuse, Buffalo and Temple.

“The Rutgers offer means a lot to me because it is my home state and it's always been a dream of mine to have a scholarship from them. What I like about Rutgers is Coach [Chris] Ash's style of coaching and the energy he brings to the team and Coach Kill's new offense is one that I would thrive in.”

Langan also offered his thoughts on the RU coaches who have been recruiting him.

“Coach Kill came in the school the first week he took the job. He seems like a very straightforward, honest guy. And there are not many places where the OC was a head coach for 22 years. Today, I also met with Coach Ash, he was just talking to me about having an opportunity to play early.

Langan will visit UConn next weekend and already has an early leader in mind.

“My current favorite is Boston College. Coach [Scot] Loeffler is awesome and I think the program is really on its way up.”
