NJ Athlete Chase Jones adding up early offers and interest

Class of 2019 athlete Chase Jones of St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) has pulled in a half-dozen offers, and also has some elite academic universities pursuing his services. The standout student-athlete was recently at Rutgers for its junior day as the Scarlet Knight coaching staff issued an offer back in December.

“They have been showing me a lot of love,” Jones said of Rutgers. “I went to their junior day and it was a real good experience to be on campus, see the facilities and things like that.”

Jones also talked about what is standing out most about Rutgers.

“The culture. You can tell they are close to turning it around and getting where they want to be. There is a real change in everything there. The academics stood out to me. I was really excited back when they offered me.”

Vanderbilt and Syracuse have already offered while UConn, Boston College, Temple, Wake Forest and UMass are among the other schools showing an increased interest.

Jones also holds Ivy League offers from Columbia, Yale and Cornell, where his brother, Mitch, is currently a freshman tight end.

Jones talked about the possibility of attending one of those prestigious Ivy League universities.

“That is something my family and I are definitely discussing. We’ll see where we go. I am going to take my time with the process and make the right decision with my family.”

Jones has position versatility, but is mainly being recruited as a linebacker.

“Rutgers likes me as an inside linebacker because of my size," said the 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior. "Syracuse likes me at the SAM position as an outside linebacker and I can grow into an inside linebacker as well. I was also at their junior day.”

Jones also commented on what he is looking for in a future college.

“The culture, academics, tradition, and the coaching staff, just the overall fit has to be there. Those will be the deciding factors.”
