A visit to Saturday night’s spring game at Rutgers resulted in an offer for class of 2018 linebacker Javar Garrett of The Peddie School. He talked with Scarlet Nation about receiving that offer, his second overall.

“It felt great. I've been wanting a Rutgers offer forever it seems like,” Garrett said.

He also talked about how he learned of that offer.

“Coach [Jay] Niemann brought me to the side in the locker room and gave me the news of how him and the staff came to the decision of offering me.”

Last night also provided Garrett with another chance to see the Rutgers team in action.

“I like the tempo and intensity everyone plays with when they're on the field,” he said. “I also love the coaching staff. I feel as though I have a good relationship with every coach.”

Garrett’s main recruiter at Rutgers has been offensive line coach AJ Blazek.

“His energy is off the charts,” Garret said of Blazek. He is always smiling no matter what the situation. He is always on me making sure I'm doing what I have to do on and off the field.”

Garrett spent last season at Penn’s Grove in southern New Jersey but recently transferred further up the state to The Peddie School, where he reclassified as part of the class of 2018.

He will put his skills on display next week at both the Rivals and Nike Camps in New Jersey and also mentioned that Cornell and Boston College seem to be on the verge of offering.

Garrett's first offer came courtesy of Temple back in March of this year.
