Ihmir Marsette commits to Rutgers

Rutgers landed a commitment today from another in-state player as Weequahic athlete Ihmir Marsette committed on an official visit weekend. He talked with Scarlet Nation about his decision.

“The visit was great, and I had an amazing time,” Marsette said. “Kiy Hester was my player host. He’s a hard worker, and he just loves to ball. We connected from the start, they treated me like I was on the team already.

“We went bowling, played laser tag, and just hung out with the players. We played some PS4 at one of the players dorm rooms, watched some highlights of other recruits. Mostly just chilled out and got along with each other.”

Marsette also credited the coaching staff with playing a big role in his decision.

“I connected with all of the coaching staff, they are very supportive and expect nothing but the best from you,” Marsette said. “The coaching staff is just very supportive. They’ve always had my back and stuck with me through it all. The players are all hard working guys, and the strength coach Kenny Parker is just getting all them right.”

The coaches also welcomed Marsette as part of the 2017 class that is heavy with in-state prospects.

“I told Coach Ash and Coach Busch and they were just very excited, they just said get ready to put in the work,” Marsette said.

However, it was the complete package that led to Marsette’s commitment.

“Rutgers is the place I felt comfortable at, it’s close to home,” he said. “The players there are very together and I like that about it. We all connected when I first got there. I always said the first place I feel comfortable at I would choose.”
