Four-star OT Mekhi Becton includes Rutgers in his Top 10

Class of 2017 four-star offensive tackle Mekhi Becton of Highland Springs, (Va.) has just trimmed his list down to a top 10 and Rutgers has made the cut. The Scarlet Knights are among other finalists Michigan, Michigan State, UNC, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Pitt, Virginia, Maryland and Penn State.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound Becton is Rivals.com’s 186th-ranked prospect in the national class of 2017 and spoke with Scarlet Nation about Rutgers making his latest cut.

“I just like Rutgers a lot and I feel like I can come in and play pretty early there.”

Becton continues to maintain contact with RU offensive line coach AJ Blazek.

“I talk to Coach Blazek the most, just about every other day or so,” Becton said. “He tells me about how they are taking five offensive linemen in this class and they want me to be one of them. Also, he always tells me how much of a special place Rutgers is.”

Becton is in the process of planning his first trip up to Piscataway.

“I’ve never been up to Rutgers yet, but it is possible I will be making a trip up there this season,” he said.

Another adjustment to Becton’s top 10 will be made, but it is not expected for quite some time.

“I plan on cutting my list again to a top five sometime after my senior season of high school,” Becton said.

Now that Becton has a top 10 in place, he is not yet ready to name any front runners.

“I’m hearing the most from all of the 10 schools and no one is really on top right now,” Becton said.
