Former Boston College QB Johnny Langan talks transfer to Rutgers

The Knight Report has been able to confirm that this spring, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be adding some help to the depleted quarterback room, as former Boston College Eagle Johnny Langan will be transferring back home to Rutgers.

Langan is currently listed at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds per BCEagles.com. He is also a former North Jersey native who originally was a member of the class of 2018, but elected to sign with Boston College over offers from Buffalo, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Temple.

The transfer quarterback spoke with us here at The Knight Report about the move back to his home state.

“I’m going to be transferring to Rutgers,” Langan told TKR. “I talked to the coaching staff and all that, it is all settled. They are really excited to have me and it should be a good quarterback competition in the spring when I enroll in January. I will either be enrolling on either January 21st or 22nd, one of those two days.”

Rutgers Offensive Coordinator (John) McNulty played a big part in selling the future of the offense with Langan at the helm, and he even mentioned he would be adding some new elements to benefit his style of play.

“I spoke with McNulty recently and I’m really excited about what is going on over there,” said Langan. “He is throwing some stuff in the offense that I think that I will be able to thrive on.

"I’ve watched some games this past season and I think they are a few plays away in a lot of their games. They just need some extra to push them over the finish line. If you watch the back half of the season, which was probably the more challenging part of the season, they were only a few plays away in those games.”

Langan was also hearing from quite a bit of FCS schools when the transfer became public, but in the end he wanted to stay in the Power Five and he always knew that Rutgers was home.

“From the start I had lot of FCS schools that wanted me to come and play for them,” he said. “However, I wanted to play at a Power Five school and Rutgers seemed like the place for me. I went away to college and I wanted to be back home. It didn’t really work out the way I planned it and Rutgers always seemed like it was home to me even back in my recruitment.”

As a member of the class of 2018, Langan was ranked as a 5.6, three-star quarterback by Rivals.com and the No. 22 player overall in the state of New Jersey for his class.
