Family led Micah Clark and Jamaal Beaty to Rutgers

Today, the St. John Vianney family duo of Micah Clark and Jamaal Beaty ended each of their respective recruitments with a Rutgers commitment. By staying in state for college, the step brothers will now look forward to a college career very close to home.

St. John Vianney head coach Derek Sininsky talked about the importance of the family dynamic in the brothers’ commitment to Rutgers.

“No.1, they are a family-oriented group and that goes for mom and dad. They are best of friends and always around one another,” Sininsky said. “Jamaal is Micah’s biggest fan when he is wrestling and playing volleyball. It kind of makes a whole lot of sense and is not a big surprise to me by the way their family is. We always talked about how rough it is going to be if Micah goes down to Clemson or Ohio State or Alabama; how far that would be for the family. But they would still travel. By being here in their own backyard is really great for their family, friends and obviously their coaches.

“It is kind of like God watching over them and keeping the brothers together, keeping everybody together, allowing mom and dad to see them whenever they want; not having to worry about doing laundry and all of that. It is a great day for them, a great day for St. John Vianney and a great day for Rutgers.”

Clark is a national recruit and among the most sought-after linemen in the entire class of 2017. With Clark’s commitment, Rutgers head coach Chris Ash has made a bold statement.

“This says a lot for Rutgers right now where they are able to get this type of player,” Sininsky said. “Right from the get-go, Coach Ash was in there with that Coach [Urban] Meyer – Ohio State mentality. He is going after the best in New Jersey right away. And he said right away that Rutgers wanted to win New Jersey. Micah has been on the radar for so long that the four-stars and five-stars are going to follow in his path.”

Sininsky also went on to talk about how Ash and the RU staff was able to win over Clark and Beaty.

“The most important thing was the way he appealed to Micah and Jamaal right off the bat. They absolutely loved him the day he came to St. John Vianney. He had an immediate effect on them. And [Rutgers Offensive line] Coach [AJ] Blazek has been in constant contact with them, me, my assistant coaches and our administration. I think they just felt special family warmth around those guys and the staff. And then they went up to junior day together at Rutgers and they really felt comfortable around the coaching staff and the school. Those two doing it together made it even more special, you just can’t get the type of experience they are getting now.”

While Clark is now the headliner of the RU recruiting class of 2017, Beaty also brings a lot of promise, according to Sininsky.

“Jamaal has not exploded on the radar. Last year, he really worked on his technique and his offensive game. He learned how to play guard and tackle and he can play both. Right now, he is at 6-foot-3 and around 275, 280 [pounds], but he moves so well on his feet. He has good lateral movement and good explosiveness off the ball. He has big legs and wide hips and is real good with his hands. And he is just starting to grow right now. He is getting bigger and getting taller, getting into that man look.”
