Exclusive: Christian Izien commits to Rutgers, discusses decision

A recent offer has quickly translated into a commitment as Erasmus Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) senior athlete Christian Izien has pledged to spend his future at Rutgers. Izien spoke with Scarlet Nation about his commitment before making it public.

“I like that Rutgers that is close to home, which is convenient so my family could come to see my games,” said Izien, who will most likely play safety at Rutgers. “Also, I like the opportunity to be playing at the highest level of college football in the Big Ten and receiving a great education will set me up for my future. They also have some tremendous athletic facilities.

“What stands out about Rutgers is how they give all of their players the best of the best, especially when it comes down to playing football; down to the field, the facilities, and a great staff that’s always there helping you.”

Izien also remarked on the impression made upon him by his area recruiter at Rutgers.

“I speak pretty actively with DB coach Bill Busch. He's a great guy, he makes me feel comfortable with the staff. When we talk, he's always interested to see how I'm doing.”

Izien was offered by Rutgers on Saturday and quickly made the decision to commit. However, he has seen quite a few of his teammates go through the recruiting process.

“I've gotten many different type of responses from teammates about the recruiting process,” Izien said. “I’ve been told it’s stressful and it’s the best time of their life too. The best advice I've received is from my teammates Shamel (Lazarus), Sean Ryan, and Kessawn (Abraham). They all told me just be patient and make the best decision for you.”

Izien joins Abraham, who is already committed to RU’s class of 2018.

“I’ve talked to Kessawn about Rutgers. He's told me things like how the school is very committed to getting you there, especially once they offer you. Also, the staff and players are always in contact with each other. I plan on taking my official visit to Rutgers sometime after the season is over.”
