Everett Wormley sizing up early playing time at Rutgers

Incoming freshman Everett Wormley of Burlington Township High School is a month away from his arrival date at Rutgers. He was one of the earliest commits in that class and now that long, anticipated wait is steadily coming to an and.

“It does feel close. My mom is counting it down every day,” said Wormley, who will be on campus June 25th. “A month is still a lot of time, but I know I am getting close.”

In the meantime, a good deal of Wormley’s time is being spent preparing for his future on the college gridiron.

“I have just been training and running track,” Wormley said. “I have a trainer and have been doing some workouts from the workout book that they gave us. I have been staying in the playbook, so I am just preparing to go up there and compete.”

There is an opportunity for early playing time and that fact has been made known to Wormley.

“They keep telling me they need young talent and to be ready to come in and compete for playing time right away,” Wormley said of the RU staff. “They are going to use about six receivers in the rotation.”

Wormley and fellow South Jersey receiver Bo Melton are two of the incoming freshmen that Rutgers fans could expect to see on the field sooner rather than later.

“Bo and I are going to be roommates and whenever we are up there, we are usually together,” Wormley said. “They tell us that we are built ready to play now. Some guys have to come in and adjust their bodies.”

Wormley is currently checking in at an even 6-foot and a very solid 192 pounds.

“[Strength] Coach [Kenny] Parker said stay right there, that’s a good weight,” Wormley said. “He is going to try and tone me up and not put a lot of weight on me.”

Now, with a few weeks left of high school, Wormley is not feeling too nostalgic about leaving home for the next chapter in his life.

"I am just ready to go up to school. I love Burlington, but my time here is down. I did everything I wanted to do. I am just looking forward to the next step."
