Breaking News: Rutgers lands commitment from Mike Lonsdorf

The latest Rutgers commitment on this official visit weekend comes from the state of New Jersey as Immaculata offensive lineman Mike Lonsdorf joined the Scarlet Knights program and discussed his decision with Scarlet Nation.

"At the end of the day, that is home. It's where I grew up. And it allows me to still be around a lot of family and friends,” the 6-foot-7 Lonsdorf said of his decision.

Lonsdorf was previously committed to UConn, quickly opened things back up once Rutgers expressed interest.

“When [offensive line] coach [A.J.] Blazek was hired, he followed me on Twitter and reached out to me through the phone,” Lonsdorf said. “And then when the contact period came around, he and [head coach] Chris Ash came over to my house and offered me on the spot.”

Part of the reason Lonsdorf developed such a quick affinity with Rutgers was because of Blazek, who was instrumental in his commitment.

“I know he loves football, comes from a good family, and he has been a very upfront guy with me and my family throughout the process,” Lonsdorf said of Blazek.

This weekend’s official visit to Rutgers allowed Lonsdorf to get a more comprehensive view of the program and also gave him the chance to get to know Ash a little better.

Lonsdorf offered up his commitment to Ash directly while on campus.

“It's crazy how he's only been there for a few weeks and already is changing things in the program for the better,” Lonsdorf said of Ash. “After meeting with him, he has a crystal clear vision of what type of program that he wants and a plan for how to get there. It's exciting.”
