Punter Ryan Anderson has one more year of eligibility at the college level and while on an official visit to Rutgers this weekend, he decided to join the Scarlet Knights as will play this coming season as a grad transfer from Olivet College.

The Michigan native and two-time first team All-American told Scarlet Nation why he committed to Rutgers.

"As far as I was concerned, I was probably ready to commit within an hour and a half of being on campus. They talked to me yesterday and kind of let me know it was happening. Then, this morning, I met with Coach Ash and made everything official."

"He was excited," Anderson said. "He is looking for me to change momentum at times and do good things on the field. I just have to come out here and perform."

The coaches also played a part in his decision.

"Talking to Coach Ash, he is a great guy and he is doing great things with the program," Anderson said. "They have great things going there. I have always been a Big Ten kid and I am just blessed to be home in that sense."

Anderson was also impressed with what Rutgers had to offer.

“I love the fact that Rutgers is a Big Ten school with incredibly high academic accolades. The facilities are top notch and I love the collaboration amongst all of the people involved in football.”

While on campus, the current RU players also helped sway Anderson’s decision.

“The guys that I have met have all seemed genuine and the things they have going on here are very intriguing and exciting,” Anderson said.

And what was the best part of the weekend?

“The commitment honestly. That was the best part of it. It was a relieving feeling to have this process come to an end and this is a decision I am beyond happy with.”

It has been a long road to Rutgers for Anderson, who started his college football career at D2 Saginaw State and then moved on to D3 Olivet College. He was able to play wide receiver at both of those schools and even played basketball.

Now, he is realizing his dream of playing D1 football.

"Life comes full circle. I wanted to go division 1 out of high school but I chose the receiver route and started at Division 2 and 3 schools. It has taken a while to sink in, but I am honored to finally be on the big stage. "
