2024 Ohio DL Elijah King commits to Rutgers over several B1G schools

For the fourth time this recruiting cycle, Rutgers Football has landed multiple commitments in the same day as Ohio defensive end Elijah King made the call today to join Noah Shaw and the Scarlet Knights 2024 class.

King plays his high school ball for Gahanna High School (OH) and is listed as a 6-foot-6, 230-pound defensive linemen and chose the Scarlet Knights over programs such as Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, West Virginia and a couple of others. On top of that he also drew some serious interest from Ohio State and camped there recently, but they have not offered the 2024 in-state prospect.

"I chose Rutgers because of the people," King told TKR. "The coaches connected me with on my level of comfort. It was just a great feeling when I was there for a visit. It feels like home to me and my family felt the same.. I know when I get there I won't feel alone in anyway and they'd made sure that I'm always taken care of. Not to mention they said they would let me leave to go home to see my mom whenever I needed."

Now the distance might seem a little far for King, going from Ohio to New Jersey, but his family has already proven that they will be wiling to travel to watch him as King's older brothers, Karter Johnson played for TCU before transferring to Butler Community College and recently join Pittsburgh as a member of the 2022 class.

"She drove to Texas a lot, and she drove to Purdue to watch them play," King told Rivals. "She drove to Kansas to watch him play there, too. Last year, she'd watch my games on Friday nights and then wake up in the morning and go to his games Saturday."

Going back to this commitment, this counts as another feather in the cap for defensive line coach Marquise Watson as he now hauled in four defensive linemen in the CHOP24 class with King joining the likes of Tyclean Luman, Tycoolhill Luman and Aaris Bethea.
