Wide receiver Eddie Lewis spent this fall at Milford Academy and that semester of prep school has led him back to Rutgers. Lewis excelled both on the field and in the classroom at Milford and is now set to enroll in Rutgers for the spring semester, which begins in January

“There was not that much work that I had to do [academically],” Lewis said. “I got most of it done my senior year. It was just minor stuff.”

Lewis played his high school football at Meter Dei in Middletown, N.J., and he admitted life was very different this past semester in New Berlin, N.J.

“It was different. You are at prep school by yourself, nothing much there,” Lewis said. “You have a little pizza shop down the block. They got a Chinese food store and a deli and that is really it. But if you are a football player and you love football then you are going to get through it. It was not really tough for me. When it was first presented to me, I just didn’t want to go. But anybody would have been the same way. I just had to do what I had to do.

“I had a good time though. I met a bunch of people, made some new friendships and built great chemistry with my teammates. We won some games and had a great season.”

While Lewis was at Milford, he didn’t spend time playing the recruiting game a second time around.

“I stayed under the radar. I didn’t really talk to anybody,” Lewis said. “I didn’t really want to talk to anybody. I knew what I had discussed with Rutgers. They wanted me and that is where I wanted to be.”

Meanwhile, the RU coaching staff stayed on Lewis.

“We kept in contact and I have a great relationship with the coaches,” Lewis said. “It wasn’t like I had to start over or anything like that. We didn’t lose contact at all.”

Lewis is up to 183 pounds and will provide some immediate help to the Rutgers passing game as he has the ability to play both the slot and outside receiver.

“I am confident out there, so wherever they need me, that’s fine; whether it is in the slot or on the outside. My whole life, I basically played inside and outside. So nothing will really change for me.”
