Travon King commits to Rutgers

Rutgers landed another big piece of its future today as Woodrow Wilson (Camden, N.J.) class of 2018 athlete Travon King publicly announced his commitment to the Scarlet Knights.

Earlier today, King’s Wilson squad scrimmaged at Rutgers and he told Scarlet Nation why he chose Rutgers.

“They were recruiting me the hardest and I see how they treated my friends and my teammates. I like Rutgers and feel I can get a great education here. When football is over, I will have a great degree. I don’t have to go far to play big time football.”

The versatile King has excelled on both sides of the football at the high school level and brings a lot of position flexibility.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound King talked about whether he will play offense or defense at Rutgers.

“It is basically up to me. I like defense so it will be outside linebacker or defensive end.”

Earlier today, King made his share of plays in Wilson’s scrimmage against Irvington and mentioned what it was like playing on his future practice field at Rutgers’ Marco Battaglia Practice Complex.

“It felt good, it is a great atmosphere. It seems like the players here really like it a lot. It will make a huge impact on recruiting for Rutgers.

Now that Rutgers has secured a commitment from King, don’t expect the staff to halt its efforts at Wilson High. King’s younger brother, Stanley, is a standout recruit in the class of 2019.

And Rutgers may have just gained some ground in that race as well.

“We are planning on playing together so that is probably going to happen,” King said.
