Paul Woods announces Rutgers commitment

Rutgers has received another commitment from the state of New York, making it a total of three in the class of 2018. This time, it was wide receiver Paul Woods of Canisius High (Amherst, N.Y) who announced his intentions to join the Rutgers program.

Woods joins linebacker Zihir Lacewell (Tottenvile) and cornerback Kessawn Abraham (Erasmus Hall) as the other two RU commits from the empire state.

“I’ve committed to Rutgers,” Woods told Scarlet Nation. “The reason I chose Rutgers is because the relationship I have with the coaches. I also like the environment and how it was presented to me. My favorite thing about Rutgers is the high energy and the competition.”

Recruiting efforts have been ongoing with Woods as he has remained a top wide receiver target for quite some time.

“I talk with coaches [Vince] Okruch and Omar [Hales] the most, about one to two times per week. Coach Vince talks to me the most, he's the one that gave me the offer,” Woods said. “We had a great relationship since the beginning. I also have a great relationship with coach Omar ever since he came over from Temple.”

Woods’ most recent trip to Rutgers camp during the month of June at one of the program’s east coast elite camps.

“I was recently at Rutgers for a camp, but unfortunately I had a groin injury, but I decided to still participate anyway. I didn't really do much other than camp. I already saw most of the college already.”

Woods becomes Rutgers' 13th commitment to the class of 2018 and the first wide receiver of that group.
