More on new Rutgers commit Isaih Pacheco

Rutgers earned a commitment from an extremely talented South Jersey prospect yesterday when Vineland class of 2018 running back Isaih Pacheco offered up his verbal pledge while on campus.

Vineland head coach Dan Russo spoke with Scarlet Nation about Rutgers’ newest offensive commit.

“They are getting a player who is not only an athlete and a great kid, but he brings electricity to your program,” Russo said of Pacheco. “He is just a great kid to be around. He is a great leader and people feed off his positive energy. He is the real deal and he is just going to get better.”

Pacheco will line up at running back for Rutgers, which is where he was being recruit by the RU staff from the outset.

“He plays quarterback for us and we built the entire offense around him,” Russo said. “He is a running back at the division 1 level. I feel like he could play running back for us, but he is so shifty that it is hard to get a clean shot on him and he is an aggressive runner. He has a great combination of speed and size. I think he has it all. I think he will do very well as a college running back.”

Pacheco could generate some recruiting momentum for RU’s class of 2018 as he is one of the top prospects in the state.

“He really wanted to stay home,” Russo said. “He really likes [Rutgers Head] Coach [Chris] Ash. He feels like it is a family atmosphere and he wants the Jersey kids to follow his lead and do some great things together at Rutgers.”

Pacheco totaled 15 offers at the time of his commitment and could warrant a four-star ranking, according to Russo

“I have seen some of those kids who are ranked higher and I will take my guy over them any day of the week.”
