Frank Darby sets official visit to Rutgers

New Jersey class of 2016 wide receiver Frank Darby of Lincoln High School is back on the open market and is quickly becoming a sough-after recruit. A former Iowa commit, Darby opted to re-open things and was able to do so because he did not sign a letter of intent.

There were some academic concerns among the Iowa coaching staff, but Darby is fully qualified and several schools are already trying to obtain a commitment.

Rutgers is among those schools and RU wide receivers coach Jafar Williams visited Lincoln High School today.

“He came by the school today and we set up an official visit for Friday,” Darby said. “They are really interested in me. They want me to come join the team.”

Darby already knew Williams through his earlier foray through the recruiting process.

“He came by one day to meet me when he was at Purdue, so I have met him before,” Darby said of Williams.

Darby’s official visit to Rutgers will last two days and he commented on what’s in store.

“They said be ready to see more of the campus and stuff. I will also get to hang out and meet some of the players. I never got the full effect when I went there before. They are going to show me a lot more.”

Early playing time is also a real possibility as Rutgers is in need of some playmakers at the wide receiver position.

“They said if I come in and work hard, I could come in and start as a freshman,” Darby said.

Arizona State is also very interested in Darby and he may also make an official visit out west the following weekend.

“I spoke with them a few times,” Darby said of Arizona State. “They want me to come out for a visit next weekend.”

Temple stopped by Lincoln High today and the University of Toledo is also showing heightened interest.

However, Darby is not planning to rush into any decision.

“This time, I am going to take my time because I want to make the right decision. So far, it’s been crazy, a lot of phone calls. It’s been stressful.”
