Rowan University was the site of the last state final game in New Jersey on Sunday night and Shawnee senior Daevon Robinson took center stage, showing why he is a highly sought-after FBS recruit.
Robinson scored on touchdown receptions of 73 and 36 yards while also adding a 45 yard touchdown run.
That all factored in to a Shawnee 41-6 win over Hammonton for the Group 4 South Jersey championship.
“Sophomore year, we came here and we lost. Last year, we didn’t get here,” Robinson said after the win. “This is really big. We worked all season for this and took some tough losses. But now it feels really good.”
Robinson also created havoc from his linebacker position, adding a host of tackles and a sack.
At the college level, Robinson could prove to be a weapon on both sides of the football.
“I will play anywhere, preferably offense but if they want me on defense, I will get after it,” he said.
College coaches from Rutgers, Temple and Baylor were on hand to watch Robinson’s final high school game.
“That excites me, but I know I have to play my game. I can’t play above myself and do too much because I will be outside of my game,” Robinson said. “I just have to stay campus.”
Now that his high school season has finished, Robinson turns his full attention to recruiting. He recently decommitted from NC State and will take an official visit to Baylor this coming weekend. That will be followed by a trip up to Rutgers for an official visit the following weekend.
All of that could translate into a final decision.
“I might possibly make a decision after the visits, but I am not too sure of when I will decide.”
