Chris Muller shines at Rutgers Pro Day

Pro day at Rutgers served as a chance for members of the RU draft class of 2017 to showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts. Offensive lineman Chris Muller made the most of his chance on Friday inside the Rutgers Practice Bubble.

In the bench press portion of the day’s events, Muller pushed up 225 pounds for a total of 34 reps. Meanwhile, only one offensive lineman registered more reps at the recent 2017 NFL Scouting Combine.

“I feel like I did really well. I was extremely prepared TEST [Sports Performance]. I gave it my all and I am extremely happy with how I did,” Muller said after finishing up pro day. “I felt well and I got positive feedback.”

Muller is also coming off a Rutgers career that saw him start 49 consecutive games on the O-line.

“I think it can only help me. It shows I can take some lumps and that I am a durable player,” Muller said. “I just hope I get the opportunity to represent Rutgers more in a positive view.”

Does all of that mean Muller has the capability of playing on Sundays?

“I think he does,” RU head coach Chris Ash said. “I like Chris, I think he had a good year. He has continued to lean his body out and get in good shape. I think he’s done a nice job here. I am really hopeful he gets an opportunity because I think he’ll flourish and have a chance to make somebody’s roster.”

Now that pro day has come and gone, Muller is open to more workouts and will be in attendance at the local New York Jets and Giants tryout camps should they both extend that invitation.

“I will do everything I can to get exposure. They are great organizations and I will be extremely lucky if I get the opportunity,” he said.

Muller had just one year under Ash and his staff, but mentioned one particular way in which that showed up today.

“Confidence is a good thing to have and [Strength] Coach [Kenny] Parker instilled that in all of us. I am happy with that.”
