The Monday Morning Kickoff

The latest dead period has come to an end, although that has led into a quiet period that will last through the rest of July. That does not mean recruiting has completely slowed down as there is plenty to talk about in the scarlet nation.

Tomorrow, Canisius (Amherst,N.Y.) class of 2018 wide receiver Paul Woods will make his decision and Rutgers is among his finalists.

“I have a great relationship with the coaches at Rutgers. I also like their academics,” Woods told Scarlet Nation. “I am not really worried about their record from the previous year.”

Rutgers continues to pursue more prospects in the class of 2018 and one of the latest targets to emerge is defensive end Kaymar Mimes of Long Branch High School.

"Rutgers is definitely in my top two,” Mimes said. “Considering I haven't been to Old Dominion yet and that I don't have a full understanding of the academic programs that the schools, who are interested in me offer, it would be a little too soon to name a No.1 school.”

Rutgers has also emerged as a finalist for class of 2018 defensive back Jermaine Waller out of The Avalon School in Gaithersburg, Md.

"Rutgers and Virginia are the ones showing the most love,” Waller said. “I talk to them a lot. UVA is very big on academics and their degree hold a lot of weight. Rutgers is just trying to change things around. I can see their vision and I believe it will happen. They invest a lot in their school. Also, they are big on life after football which is needed for everyone all over, knowing that football isn't forever.”

Last week, the Scarlet Knights even made the cut for Rivals250 defensive end Marcellus Earlington of Don Bosco.

"Penn State, Michigan State, Georgia, Rutgers, North Carolina, and Duke made my cut," Earlington told Rivals.com. "Those of the big ones right now. I'm not sure what I'm going to commit. It will be when the time is right. When my family, friends and everybody feels good that's when I'll commit.”
