Now that June has kicked into gear, it figures to be a busy month of recruiting for the Rutgers coaching staff. This past Saturday marked the start of the RU camp season and the highlight came with TCU graduate transfer quarterback Zach Allen visiting Piscataway.

Allen hails from Temple, Tex., and was switched from quarterback to wide receiver last season at TCU. He was Rivals.com’s No.18-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the recruiting class of 2013 and still has two years of eligibility remaining.

Allen chose TCU over other finalist Syracuse, signifying he would have no issue spending his college career in the Northeast part of the country. Look for an article on Allen later today on Scarlet Nation.

The weekend also set in motion a host of top NJ prospects trimming their respective lists down. And Rutgers is still in the running for a host of top-level NJ prospects in the class of 2017.

Pope John defensive tackle Dalyn Wade-Perry announced that Rutgers is among his final eight schools while Mater Dei wide receiver Eddie Lewis revealed that Rutgers is in his top five.

“I like the tradition they are trying to start there at Rutgers,” Lewis told Scarlet Nation. “We could make history if we can keep all the kids from New Jersey in the state for college and we could really do big things.”

Meanwhile, wide receiver Evidence Njoku of Cedar Grove also announced the Rutgers made his top 10.

“Rutgers made my list because of my relationships with the new coaching staff and I like all the excitement about the school,” Njoku said.

On the hoops front, Roselle Catholic class of 2017 super recruit Andre Rafus included Rutgers in his top 15.

“The head coach knows how to win and that's what I love to do,” Rafus said of RU head coach Steve Pikiell.

Leading up to the weekend, Woodrow Wilson junior Edwin Lopez started off the month of June with a Rutgers commitment as he will line up at cornerback when he eventually arrives in Piscataway.

“I do feel more comfortable at corner. I can play safety too, but I like the way the Rutgers corners play,” Lopez said. “Now that I am committed, it is not a problem if opponents come after me. It is just another challenge I have to take on. I like challenges.”

This Wednesday will be a big day for the Scarlet Knight coaching staff as Rutgers will host a satellite camp at Farleigh Dickinson University, which will also welcome the Ohio State and Temple coaching staffs.

The Scarlet Nation Staff will also be in attendance with complete updates and footage of all the camp attendees in action.
