Rutgers making recruiting push into Connecticut

Rutgers has opted to extend its recruiting reach up into the state of Connecticut. The staff has already sent out offers to some talented underclassmen. Heading up that group is class of 2020 defensive tackle Tre Williams and class of 2019 athlete Tyler Rudolph, both of St. Thomas More (Oakdale, Conn.).

The two recently visited Rutgers and were joined by Connecticut cornerback Marquis Wilson, who is currently at Avon Old Farms located in Windsor, Conn.

The trio trains with Coach Stack Williams who runs Supreme Being Inc., an athlete mentoring program located in Connecticut.

“Our guys absolutely loved Rutgers,” Williams told Scarlet Nation. “I believe they are extremely grateful for the opportunity. Any time you get acknowledged for the work you've been putting in, it really is a great feeling. Rutgers was Tre's first offer and as a freshman earning an offer from Rutgers, it was a big deal. Coming from Connecticut, he might be one of maybe three kids, if that, to ever earn a scholarship as a freshman and from a Big Ten school at that. Tre has a long way to go, but for Rutgers to see his potential this early speaks volumes of their coaching staff’s ability to evaluate talent early.”

Williams also had the opportunity to spend some time with RU head coach Chris Ash.

“While sitting with Coach Ash inside his office, he told Tyler's dad and myself that he wants to bring Tyler in at cornerback and have him be interchangeable with safety because Tyler's a very aggressive defensive back and it would not be difficult for him to make the transition when called upon,” Williams said. “And playing in the Big Ten, Rutgers realizes in order for their program to have a chance to beat Michigan, Penn St, Ohio State, they need to be bigger at all positions.”

The recruiting process has just started to get going for these young prospects, although Rutgers’ early pitch has put the Scarlet Knights in a good spot.

“Right now, it’s too early to tell which direction the kids will go,” Williams said. “But I tell you this, Rutgers playing in the Big Ten and believing in our guys early in the recruiting process gives them a chance for sure.”
