Rutgers added a new member to its staff today when New Jersey native Marquis Watson joined the football program as a graduate assistant. Watson will serve as the team’s assistant defensive line coach.

Watson was a multi-year starter for Bryant and finished with 256 career tackle, which was the most in program history. He played linebacker for his first three seasons and then moved to defensive tackle as a senior.

In high school, Watson spent time at St. Peter’s Prep and graduated from Paramus Catholic.

Watson finished up his playing career in 2016 and spent this past season coaching running backs at Division III Amherst College, located in Amherst, Mass.

“Watson is an up and coming coach, and is extremely well liked by everyone he comes across,” said Scarlet Nation recruiting analyst Shawn Brown. “I remember Watson being a great kid to cover when he was in high school. Watson just graduated last spring, so he will be an asset in on campus recruiting.”
