PLAYERS TO WATCH:

QUARTERBACK AIDAN O'CONNELL

THE SKINNY: Purdue starting Quarterback Aidan O’Connell has done a nice job of distributing the football around to the Purdue playmakers on the offensive side of the football. On the season so far, O’Connell has thrown for 916 passing yards, 7 passing touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and completing 64.7 percent of his passes through the air. O’Connell is an accurate passer in all three levels of the passing game. He has a big arm that can challenge the back end of defensive secondary. O’Connell has been dealing with injury which kept him out of the week 5 matchup versus Minnesota so it will be interesting to see if he is able to play in week 6 versus Rutgers.

WIDE RECEIVER RONDALE MOORE

THE SKINNY: One of college football’s most electrifying offensive players in the game, Wide Receiver Rondale Moore is an explosive weapon for the Purdue offense. Moore is versatile player in which he can contribute to both the run and passing game. As a route runner, you see the sudden quickness and being able to transition smoothly into inside and out breaking cuts. For his size he does a good job of tracking the football down versus 1 on 1 coverage. When Moore has the football in his hands, he has very good field awareness and gets productive YAC (yards after the catch). Rondale Moore will be a successful wide receiver for an NFL team in the near future.

WIDE RECEIVER DAVID BELL

THE SKINNY: Sophomore David Bell is a physical wide receiver who is a reliable outside perimeter player for the Purdue offense. Bell was the BIG Freshman of the year in 2019 and has started his sophomore season on a high note. Bell currently leads the team with 39 receptions, 425 receiving yards, 6 receiving touchdowns and is averaging 10.9 yards per catch. When the football is thrown in Bell’s area, he attacks the football at its highest point. What Bell does really well is being able to challenge the middle of the field in the intermediate/deep passing game. He’s a fearless receiver in being able to go run routes across the middle of the field and making difficult catches through traffic. NFL teams will keep their eye’s on David Bell as he can be a nice addition to a an NFL offense in the future.

RECORD THIS SEASON: 2-2 / Wins against Illinois and Iowa.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the second ever time the two schools have met on the gridiron, with the Scarlet Knights leading the series 1-0. Rutgers won the only game against one another a couple years back when the Chris Ash led Scarlet Knights defeated the Purdue Boilermakers, 14-12 during the 2017 season.
