Recruiting is beginning to pick up for North Penn (Lansdale, Pa.) junior athlete Jon Haynes. He is beginning to see an upgrade in interest from a host of regional programs, which includes Rutgers.
“They were one of the first schools to start recruiting me, ever since my freshman year,” Haynes said of Rutgers. “I visited up there too, so they have been interested. They have told me to be patient.”
There are other regional programs showing interest as well.
“I have had a few schools coming by,” said the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Haynes. “UConn, Pitt, West Virginia and Maryland all came in. I have received a lot interest from Pitt. I got invited to a couple more junior days. I am set to hit UConn and Boston College for some spring practices and junior days."
As the camp season slowly approaches, Haynes is waiting out his first offer.
“It is a little nerve-wracking, but I talked to my dad and my coaches. They said the offers are coming, and that it is just a matter of time," Haynes said. "I have to make sure everything I do is right; grades, school, weight. I have to stay on top of everything. I just trust God and hope everything falls in place.”
Haynes also mentioned where schools are recruiting him to play at the college level.
“So far, I am being recruited more on the defensive side of the ball. But I have still had some schools talk about offense or coming in as an athlete. I just consider myself an athlete at this point.”
