LB Greg Penn adds Rutgers offer during junior day visit

Recruiting has started early and often for McDonough High (Owings Mill, Md.) class of 20201 linebacker Greg Penn. He added offer No.3 yesterday from Rutgers to go along with previous ones from Temple and Maryland.

The offer was issued to the 6-foot-2, 225-pound freshman during Rutgers’ junior day.

“Just hearing Coach [Chris] Ash say I received the offer gave me chills,” Penn said. “He said I have a very bright future and he couldn’t believe I was a freshman.”

Rutgers has pre-existing connection to Penn, thanks in part to new cornerbacks coach Cory Robinson.

“Coach Robinson trained me when I was younger and has been recruiting me wherever he goes. He is my family,” Penn said. “Also, Coach Ash came up to my school and McDonogh and watched my workout. He loved my work ethic which led to him offering me.”

Sunday not only netted Penn a new offer, but it also gave him a chance to learn more about the Rutgers program.

“I didn’t know much about Rutgers until I got there,” Penn said. “They have great facilities around the campus and their academic component at the school is great. What stood out was the way the coaches interacted with the recruits. They made everyone feel wanted. The most memorable experience was receiving an offer from another great program.”

Penn is also receiving interest from Penn State, Clemson, West Virginia, Pitt, and Wisconsin as it looks as though his recruitment may wind up being one that draws offers on a national level.

“All these schools message is for to keep working. Knowing I’m young, they just want to see me continue to get better. They all tell me things will blow up fast. It’s crazy receiving offers this early. I would have never expected this to happen. Although you just have to keep working and striving to be great. This is just the beginning.”
