FLIP ALERT: 2020 Vineland ATH Tyreem Powell flips to Rutgers

Class of 2020, three-star athlete Tyreem Powell out of Vineland, N.J. might’ve committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies back in February, but Rutgers never stopped showing him love and it paid off.

The Scarlet Knights, now led by Greg Schiano, managed to flip the him following an official visit marking their 13th commitment from New Jersey this recruiting cycle.

Powell recently spent the weekend on campus.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound athlete can play multiple positions at the next level including tight end, linebacker and even possibly safety.

Rivals.com’s Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Analyst Adam Friedman pegged Powell as one of many possible commitment flips from the area back in April.

“Powell is a great fit in Virginia Tech’s scheme, but the Hokies haven’t done an amazing job of recruiting southern New Jersey over the years. Rutgers will always be in the conversation because of its ties to Powell’s high school and his two former teammates that play for the Scarlet Knights. Powell could be one to watch if his offer sheet expands throughout the spring and summer.”

Besides earning offers from both Rutgers and Virginia Tech, Powell also had scholarships from the likes of Penn State and Temple.
