Everett Wormley commits to Rutgers

Rutgers landed another commitment to its class of 2017 today when Burlington Township wide receiver Everett Wormley made the announcement that he would be joining the Scarlet Knights. Wormley revealed to Scarlet Nation why he made this decision.

“It just felt like home every time I went to visit there. All these programs always talk about family, but Rutgers is one of those programs that are actually family.”

Since new head coach Chris Ash took over at Rutgers, Wormely has been a priority target.

“They've made me a top priority at receiver and because they lose so many receivers after this year, I will be able to compete for a starting job on day one,” Wormley said. “I also couldn't pass on the chance to play in front of all my friends & family that have watch me play since 2nd grade. They are all a part of my success.”

Wormley has been up to campus numerous times and mentioned what changes he likes most about the program.

“I like the competitive atmosphere at Rutgers the most. Competition really brings the dog out of people and I crave the competition. That's all they are doing every single day and I feel being in the environment can take me to a whole new level as receiver and a man.”

RU wide receivers coach Jafar Williams also managed to make a strong impression on Wormely, which helped influence his decision.

"Coach Williams, my position and recruiting coach, stands out to me. He is so down to earth and is almost like a young guy himself,” Wormley said. “And his knowledge about the position is something that I could greatly benefit from. He knows how to mold great receivers.”

The possibility of early enrollment is something Wormely is considering for next January.

“I have to discuss with my family. I have enough credits to where if I do what I need to do first semester of next year, I can enroll early. So we'll see.”

Now that Wormley is committed, he turns his attention to helping bring other in-state prospects to Rutgers with him as part of its class of 2017.

“I'm close to Markquese [Bell] and Fred [Hansard]. So I'm going to recruit them hard. I'm also going to recruit my boys Jon Lovett, Edwin Lopez and Jon Taylor too. I am just going to try to keep South Jersey on lock for RU.”
