DT Jaohne Duggan discusses his Rutgers commitment

Rutgers made it a 3-for-Tuesday as Liberty (Bethlehem, Pa.) defensive tackle Jaohne Duggan committed to the RU class of 2017. He spoke with Scarlet Nation moments after tweeting out his commitment.

“I was talking to [Defensive Line] Coach [Shane] Burnham yesterday and I really felt like that was the place for me. It is a great environment there. They really care about their player during football and after football. I feel like it is just the right move for me.”

Duggan then talked things over with his parents this evening.

“I could have either committed tonight or tomorrow, but why waste time,” Duggan said. I just decided to do it tonight.”

That prompted Duggan to phone Burnham to tell him the news.

"He was really excited and happy," Duggan said. "I spoke to [Head] Coach [Chris] Ash yesterday but I have not spoken to him yet today. I am going to be talking to him in a little bit."

Duggan went from a relatively unknown recruit to a Big Ten commit in a matter of weeks following two strong performances at separate Rutgers camps.

"It was a good experience," he said. "I was not worried about getting offers from a bunch of schools, I was just worried about finding the right fit for me. I feel like I have a place over there and everything they are saying is perfect. It is the right move for me all the way."

Next up for Duggan is a trip back to Rutgers on July 18th.

In the meantime, he is enjoying a wave of attention following his commitment.

"My phone is still blowing up right now. I am getting a whole bunch of tweets. It is really exciting."
