2022 point guard Chas Kelley earns Rutgers offer, planning June visit

Rutgers Basketball is hot on the recruiting trail as they’ve recently sent out a couple of new offers in the class of 2022. However the most recent offer was to a former Texas product in point guard Chas Kelley who recently reclassified to the Class I’d 2022 and is finishing his high school ball in Philadelphia.

Kelley spoke with The Knight Report about his new offer from the Scarlet Knights, what he knows about the program and more.

"I recently had a Zoom call with the staff and they informed me about the offer," Kelley told TKR. "They told me that they loved my game and how versatile I am at the point guard position. We also talked about development both on and off the court."

Despite never visiting the campus before, Kelley hopes to make a quick trip over to campus some time after the dead period comes to an end in June.

“I never visited campus before, but I plan to visit one of the first couple of weekends in June to check it out," said Kelley. "I'm not sure right now if it will be an official visit or not."

As stated before, Kelley recently reclassed from the 2021 class and transferred to Phelps Academy in Philadelphia to help with his recruitment and so far it’s paying off.

“My AAU coach down in Texas played overseas with a guy that is here in Philly and that was pretty much the connection,” he said. “When I was presented this opportunity I saw it as a chance to play and train with good competition, also the decision to move to 2022 was more so on the fact how NCAA gave guys an extra year of eligibility.”

Along with Rutgers, Kelley also holds scholarship offers from George Mason, Louisiana Tech, and Missouri State. However he is drawing a lot of interest from high majors across the country, some of which will likely offer before he makes his decision later this year.

“I'm hearing a lot from Georgia State, La Salle, Loyola Chicago, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, UCF, VCU, Virginia Tech and some others," Kelley said. "I am looking to makes my decision around October, I'm just looking for a place where I can be successful both on and off the court."
