Pac-Tending 04-08-09

The Big Dance is officially over for all the conference's hoop teams and now it is time for baseball at the Creek as Arizona State became the nation's top-ranked team this week.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA set a new attendance record for both the Final Four and the men's basketball championship game.





UCLA

In softball, the Bruins defeated Arizona to improve to 27-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.



USC

In men's hoop, head coach Tim Floyd was offered the head coaching position at Arizona but turned it down.



Arizona

In men's hoop, the Wildcats hired Sean Miller from Xavier as their new head coach and junior Chase Budinger announced his intention to make himself eligible for the NBA Draft.



Washington

In baseball, the Huskies lost to Gonzaga to fall to 10-19 overall and 1-5 in conference play.



WSU

In men's hoop, Wazzu selected Portland State's Ken Bone as the new head coach of the Cougars.

In baseball, Wazzu won their Pac-10-opening series against UCLA and swept BYU to improve to 4-2 in conference play and 14-13 overall on the year.

In tennis, the Cougars lost to San Diego, USC and UCLA to fall to 7-16 overall on the year.



Stanford

In women's tennis, sophomore Hilary Barte was named as the conference's player of the week.



Oregon

In men's hoop, Arizona assistant coach Mike Dunlap was hired as associate head coach.



Arizona State

In men's hoop, sophomore James Harden announced his intention to make himself eligible for the NBA Draft.

In football, redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Elway is quitting football and the Sun Devils received a verbal commitment from tight end Josh Fulton.



Oregon State

In men's hoop, the Beavers defeated UTEP in the final game of the three-game championship series in the CBI tournament.

In football, running back Jeremy Francis has left the program.



California

In men's tennis, sophomore Pedro Zerbini was named as the conference's player of the week.
